Our Commitment

The ASSA ABLOY and Americas Residential group is committed to building healthy and safe environments where people live, work and stay. Each of our products are designed to provide the quality, value and performance our customers demand, and are manufactured in ways that help conserve natural resources and eliminate through the application of new technologies and operational efficiencies.

We seek to achieve the highest standards in product performance and environmental responsibility by continuously working with our employees and business partners. Throughout our supply chain, more quality recycled materials are being used, and waste is being eliminated through packaging improvements. We are enhancing our product design process to include more environmental and sustainability considerations.
Furthermore, we are empowering our employees more than ever through new resources and training programs designed to ultimately help our customers understand how our products apply to the latest green building regulations and certification programs worldwide.

This commitment is important to us because we believe delivering safe, durable and innovative products in a responsible way is critical to our success. By delivering positive economic, environmental and social results, we are creating real business value and continuing to build on our legacy as a responsible corporation that is trusted by our employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.

Environmental Statement

Maintaining a clean environment and conserving our natural resources are issues that concern us all.
ASSA ABLOY has a mission to create and maintain a working environment that is safe for our employees, the communities in which we work, and the earth on which we live.

The individual parts we play in our neighborhoods and on our jobs are critical to preserving these resources for our future and that of our children. It is the responsibility of every employee to incorporate the practices of informed stewardship in daily life. Waste, whether produced in the manufacturing plant, office, or home, represents environmental and economic inefficiency. Accordingly, we should reduce our consumption of resources to levels reasonably needed, and we should reuse those assets where practicable. Finally, we should dispose of resources intelligently, recycling those that can be utilized economically in a different form. We must recognize, however, that recycling is not without costs, and that some recycling processes consume more resources than they save.
We all deserve to have clean air, safe water and adequate resources. As environmental stewards, we support this mission.

Milestones

SmartKey: Sustainability

SmartKey re-keying technology enhances safety and security, contains nearly 30% recycled metal content.

The ease of SmartKey system allows individuals to re-key a lock without buying a new lock assembly and eliminates the waste associated with re-keying conventional pin & tumbler locks.
SmartKey re-keying technology also helps reduce the carbon footprint, eliminating the need for locksmiths to travel to and from a building.

HHI is committed to achieving ISO-14001 Certification of our manufacturing plants, and currently several of our facilities have already achieved certification.

Kwikset Helps Contribute to the Following Overall Efforts at SBDHHI

• In 2010, we reduced water consumption by 7M gallons and have achieved 3% YOY water reduction since 2008
  
• Since 2009, we reduced our electricity consumption by more than one million kilowatt hours, resulting in the elimination of more than 400 metric tons of green house gases.

Green Partnerships

Kwikset works in partnership with our suppliers to ensure they meet the standards of our social accountability audit scorecard, use the highest quality, recycled materials for our products (where possible), and are working towards further reducing waste streams through packaging and operational improvements.

• Kwikset partnered with KB Homes to GROW “Get Rid of Waste” by reducing packaging waste on job sites creating a reduction in landfills.
  
• Kwikset supports several environmental organizations, including: the World Environment Center (WEC); CHWMEG a non-profit that advises on waste management; the Product Sustainability Roundtable; and the Environmental Roundtable of the Manufacturers Alliance.
