I was re-keying my lock, but neither the old or new key now works.
It sounds like you may have accidentally misprogrammed the new cylinder. Please watch the below video for step-by-step instructions on how to recover that cylinder and rekey it to your new key.
How can I tighten the thumb turn on a single cylinder deadbolt?
The thumb turn is tightened by the two philips screws on each side of the plate.
My key pulls out in any directions after re-keying.

My key only turns one direction after re-keying.
Perform this procedure if your cylinder turns only in one direction :
